Hong Kong-based manufacturer Cyclops Optics has developed a clip-on filter that can be applied directly onto a camera’s sensor. The STC Astro-Multispectra Clip Filters are designed to block wavelengths given off by specific light emissions associated with artificial city lights, while enhancing light spectrums found in the night sky.

Co-developed by STC and Dr. Wei-Hao Wang, a renowned astrophotographer and professional astronomer, the photos below shows how much of an impact the filter can have on the stars in terms of natural colour representation.

It’s true that the same look can also be achieved through post-processing or traditional lens filters that don’t require you to fuss around with the camera’s sensor hole, but we do see how the astrophotography filter clip provides photographers looking to switch between multiple lenses with an ideal all-in-one solution.

The STC Astro-Multispectra Clip Filters are available for full-frame Canon and Nikon cameras and currently retail for US $208 with free international shipping here.

Control time with ND filters!

If your landscape images are lacking a certain something, you can use the power of a Neutral Density filter, to control time and introduce a sense of motion into the frame. A Neutral Density filter is a tinted piece of glass that fits in a holder in front of the lens and reduces the amount of light that can pass through the glass and reach the sensor. digitalrev.com »
