Olympus Unveils PEN and OM-D Firmware Updates

Olympus user? If so, you may be pleased to know that the company has just rolled out a handful of fairly significant firmware updates for some of its latest models. The new firmware concerns the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, E-M5 Mark II and PEN-F models, as well as the M.

Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4. 0 IS PRO and M. Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4. 0 IS PRO lenses.

The main update for all three bodies appears to be TTL-O (Olympus) support for Profoto Air Remote, enabling users to pair the cameras with Profoto Air TTL flashes.

The OM-D E-M1 Mark II’s update also adds High Res Shot and Focus Stacking options when using non-Olympus flashes, together with the ability for AF Home settings to be saved when the camera is turned off. Additionally, the update is said to improve both the viewfinder colour reproduction and the stability for the battery level display.

The OM-D E-M5 II receives the most changes, with many of these already present on either the E-M1 Mark II or PEN-F, or both. These include a Midtone adjustment function within the Highlight & Shadow Control option, as well as AF Target Spot Metering that links spot metering with the chosen AF point.

The OM-D E-M5 II also gains the previously seen Save Settings and Mysets feature that lets users save camera settings on a computer, in case they want to transfer them to another camera or restore them on their current model.

The update for the PEN-F, meanwhile, gifts the camera with a handful of previously seen options, including a function that allows for a shutter speed to be set that raises the ISO in the ISO Auto mode, as well as tweaks to the AF Targeting Pad so that you can continue to use this even if your nose is touching the display. A touch-to-select Art Filters option, that lets you choose and view the effect in real time, is also included in the PEN-F update.

Finally, firmware updates for the M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4. 0 IS PRO and M. Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4. 0 IS PRO improve sequential shooting performance when using image stabilisation, with the latter lens also seeing its 5-Axis Sync IS performance improved when paired with the E-M5 Mark II and E-M1 Mark II.
