Sony has taken aim at GoPro with the release of its new action camera - the DSC-RX0. The tiny camera boasts a 1-inch stacked CMOS Exmor sensor that generate 15. 3-megapixels and also features a BIONZ X processor.
The RX0 has a fixed, wide-angle 24mm Zeiss T lens and can capture both RAW and JPEG image formats.
Along with the impressive image quality specs, it’s also robust and waterproof down to ten metres – or 100metres when used the the MPK-HSR1 Housing. What’s more, the RX0 is shockproof, able to withstand drops from heights up to two metres and is also crushproof to 200kgf / 2000N.
To complement the stills specs, the RX0 also boasts the ability to shoot 4K video footage and can also record movies at incredibly high frame rates. Full HD quality is achieved around 250 frames per second with the RX0, but the action camera can record up to 1000 frames per second. Videographers will also appreciate that the RX0 can use 4K clean HDMI output to record uncompressed video to an external recorder. What’s more, the RX0 includes MF Assist and Peaking functions to help keep footage super sharp and provides Time Code / User Bit features to help the edit process when multiple cameras are used to capture a sequence.
