360-degree and VR (Virtual Reality) photography and video is flourishing in 2018 and it’s thanks to products from brands like Insta360, who has just launched its latest product - the Insta360 Pro 2.

Now, the Pro 2 isn’t like the more disposable 360 cameras that may set you back a couple of hundred pounds or dollars - in fact, the Pro 2 is a professional VR camera made up of six individual lenses. The Pro 2 is capable of shooting ultra high-quality 8K footage from two-cameras to build a complete 360-degree view and also offers other professional features, such as FlowState stabilization, long-range live monitoring and is easy to use with Adobe post-processing software. For example; every time the Pro 2 captures a video file, it saves a low-res proxy version in addition to the full-quality footage. Insta360 explains that the proxy files will be automatically recognized and stitched instantly so you can get a preview of any final project.

In terms of frame rates, the Pro 2 can capture 8K 3D at 30 FPS, 8K monoscopic at 60 FPS, 6K 3D at 60 FPS, and 4K 3D at 120 FPS. When shooting 360 footage, you simply can’t point the camera away from light sources, but the Pro 2 has a solution with an in-camera HDR mode that aims to maintain natural lighting.

Another element that sets the Pro 2 apart is the remote control features that enable users to control and capture from a distance. Insta360 explains the Pro 2 ‘comes paired with all-new Farsight technology, a 360° live monitoring system that offers a high-definition, low-latency video stream that’s optimized for long-distance previewing. ’ Using the transmitter and receiver, photographers can control the Pro 2 from from a distance of roughly 300 meters ground-to-ground, and 1 kilometer ground-to-air.
Weighing 3. 42 pounds, the Pro 2 also features four built-in mics for 360 audio in addition to a pair of USB and 3. 5 mm audio inputs. Footage is captured using six MicroSD cards (one per each camera) as this allows the Pro 2 to record at its maximum possible bitrate, while a seventh Full SD card captures stabilisation data and low-res proxy files optimized for editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. the Insta360 Pro 2 is priced at $4999 with pre-orders now being taken and cameras expected to ship in September.
