Over the weekend, popular rumours site, Nikon Rumours, shared leaked specifications and first-look pictures of what it’s sources says is Nikon’s newest DSLR, the D850. With Nikon confirming the existence of the camera, it seems very likely these leaked specs will be very close to the mark, if not completely accurate, so let’s take a look at what Nikon users can expect from the D810 replacement….

Big megapixels: The big headline is the leap forward in resolution, with a figure of 45. 75-megapixels from the full-frame CMOS sensor being quoted. Although this falls short of its Canon rivals (the 5DS/5DSR offers 50-MP), it does build significantly on the D810’s 36. 3-megapixel count.

Tiltable LCD: Also new is a tiltable 3. 2-inch LCD, with a resolution of 2. 36 million-dot being quoted and the LCD is touch-sensitive so it supports touch AF, touch shutter, and touch menu - in other words, you can pretty much control the camera via the screen!

Improved AF: The leaked specs claim Nikon has shipped in the AF system from its popular D5 sports camera so there will be 153 AF points on offer, with the middle sensor focusing down to EV-4 – perfect for photographers who need to focus up in low light conditions.

Speedy shooting: Further leaked specs suggest the D850’s buttons are back-illuminated, and a joystick will help navigation. What’s more, it says a continuous shooting rate of 7fps (9fps with a battery grip), will allow the D850 to capture 51 RAW (14-bit) files in one go. What’s more, the silent shutter mode has apparently been improved, along with battery life.

Full 4K video: Nikon had already confirmed the existence of an 8K time-lapse video mode, but the leaked specs go further, mentioning 4K UHD video in FX format (with no crop) and the ability to capture slow motion footage at 120fps in Full HD.
