Photographers wishing to edit RAW images have previously had limited choices, with the selection mainly coming down to Adobe’s market-leading Lightroom, Adobe’s Photoshop RAW Converter software or relying on any convertor software that came with the camera, such as Capture NX-D for Nikon photographers.

An all new HDR module that enables photographers to create HDR files that merge tonality from a selection of bracketed photos. On1 say this process is done up to seven times faster than other HDR apps and that the feature ‘automatically aligns photos and removes ghosting from motion between exposures’.
A Pano Stitching feature combines multiple images into a single wide-screen panoramic, automatically aligning images, which is good news if you have shot images for a pano on the fly without the use of a levelled-off tripod. The feature also gives an option to embed panoramic metadata for Facebook panning.
Additional Global Mask editing tools include options like Density and Feather sliders. This enables the user to change the density or opacity of masks for more precise edits. There have also been updates to the program’s Luminosity Mask options too.
Speed seems to be at the heart of Photo RAW by allowing photographers to browse and catalog images at the beginning of the workflow process without slowing down computer with huge import processes.
Photographers will be able to access a free public beta version of On1 Photo RAW 2018 from October 6. Existing users will be able to upgrade for $79. 99, while new users will pay $119. 99 with the full version expected to go live at the end of October.
