Phase One, the world’s leader in medium format digital photography equipment you’d sell your firstborn to afford, has made three more additions to its catalogue. Specifically, it has announced a pair Schneider Kreuznach lenses and a lower-cost version of its 100MP digital back for the XF range.
The IQ1 100MP Digital Back is the newest member of Phase One’s IQ1 family. The back has 101 MP Resolution, ISO 50-12800 with CMOS sensor, 16 Bit Color Depth (true 16-bit RAW file capture) and 15 stop dynamic range. It is highly similar to their top of the range IQ3 model but being the budget version, won’t have a lot of the same features.
The most noticeable restriction in place is that several advanced menu features won’t be available, such as exposure warnings. The back also won’t have its own HDMI or Wi-Fi connection. In addition to that, live view mode forbids capture and electronic shutter use. Finally, this back won’t be included in any purchase bundle deals and can only be bought separately. That will really hurt since it costs US$32,990.
The two new Schneider Kreuznach Blue Ring lenses, cover the two opposite ends of the optical spectrum with a telephoto and a wide-angle lens. Blue Ring lenses are part of Phase One’s brand and recognised as having some of the highest standards of optical quality. They’re capable of performing beyond the 101-megapixel resolution that Phase One cameras can capture at.
The Schneider Kreuznach 150mm LS f/2. 8 IF is described by Phase One as “the fastest Blue Ring telephoto lens with extremely shallow depth of field. ” Though more affordable than some larger telephoto lenses on the the market it will still set you back US$6,990.
The wide angle lens is the Schneider Kreuznach 45mm LS f/3. 5. Phase One are promising “edge-to-edge sharpness” and that is “nearly distortion free” in its design. It should prove useful for landscape photography but also for interior and architecture shots. Out of the three releases it’s the cheapest at US$5,990
Phase One are also introducing a new scheme where customers will be offered the free choice of any Blue Ring prime lens to be included in their kit (instead of the previously standard 80mm lens) when purchasing an XF IQ3 Camera System. This will at least mean that customer needs can be better tailored to without any additional cost.
