Sony claims that two 'advanced aspheric' and three extra-low dispersion elements provide exceptional corner-to-corner sharpness. Nine aperture blades provide circular out-of-focus highlights and smooth bokeh, even as you stop the lens down. An 'XD' linear focus motor offers silent and swift autofocus operation, and a minimum focus distance of 19cm (7. 5") allows for 0. 22x reproduction.

The FE 20mm F1. 8 offers a linear response manual focus ring, something videographers are sure to appreciate. An aperture control ring that can be 'de-clicked' for video purposes is also included, as well as a AF/MF switch and a user-assignable focus hold button – all features that will benefit users looking for precise, direct control over lens functions.

Ensuring exceptional G Lens resolution and bokeh, the FE 20mm F1. 8 G is a compact, lightweight, ultra-wide prime lens – the widest full-frame prime lens in Sony’s E-mount lineup – giving users a new resource for stretching the boundaries of their artistic imaginations.
The impressive lens design features two advanced aspherical (AA) elements and three extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements to suppress chromatic aberration and delivers high corner-to-corner image quality with minimal distortion, even at the maximum F1. 8 aperture. It has excellent close-up performance, with a minimum focus distance of 7. 5 inches (max. magnification: 0. 2 times), and delivers beautifully de-focused backgrounds, or bokeh.
