The earliest known surviving production Nikon camera in the world is currently being listed for sale by the WestLicht camera auction house. The camera shares its rich history with Nikon for being one of two cameras made in April 1948, just one month after the company started to assemble cameras.
It is also the third camera to be produced by Nikon and, a clear sign of its time, the baseplate is also engraved ‘MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN’
The camera comes with an early Nikkor-H 2/5cm no. 70811, which is the 11th Nikon lens to be made. An original and extremely rare double strap everready case also comes as a nice treat to top off the antique piece of kit.

Despite being nearly 70 years old, the camera is said to be in ‘fantastic original condition’ complete with its original shutter.
Nikon lovers can place an early bid for this piece of camera history on the listings page here. Be warned though, the opening bid starts at a steep €90,000 (US $98,000) and is estimated to sell for € 160,000-180,000 when the auction takes place on 19 November 2016.
