As the end of President Obama’s eight years in office draws to a close, White House Photographer Pete Souza has shared what he thinks are the best images of the president taken over the course of almost a decade.

Souza has apparently snapped over two million images throughout his time shadowing the 44th President and his family.

Souza first met Obama during his first term in office as senator of Illinois, as Souza plied his trade for the Chicago Tribune. The two struck up a friendship and Souza has followed Obama throughout his political life ever since.

"There's a certain daily grind to my job, but I'd say, once, twice, three, four, ten times a week, you realize that you are an eyewitness to history,” said Souza in a recent interview with NPR. “I think this administration will go down in history — he'll go down in history as a great president. And just to have been there, to watch this from up close with a camera, has just been a remarkable opportunity. "
