Chinese smartphone company Vivo has introduced its new Vivo X60+, the first of its smartphones to feature a quad-camera system co-engineered with German optics company Zeiss. Vivo and Zeiss announced their partnership in December 2020, stating at the time that this collaboration would usher in Vivo premium smartphones featuring a 'Zeiss co-engineered imaging system.

The flagship X60 Pro+ packs the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The model likewise features a 4200mAh battery and a 6. 56-inch AMOLED 120Hz display with 1300 nits brightness, HDR10+ and a 2376 x 1080 resolution.

The X60 Pro+'s big selling point is its camera system, which features a 48MP ultra-wide-angle main camera featuring 4-axis OIS, as well as a secondary main 50MP camera with an F1. 6 aperture, a 32MP portrait camera with a 50mm-equivalent focal length and an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and 60x 'super zoom. The rear quad-camera system enables users to record video up to 8K/30fps videos, as well as 4K and FHD at up to 60fps, with HDR10+ support.

The dual main cameras feature a 'super-sensitive micro-pan head,' according to Vivo, which notes that the lenses sport a Zeiss coating that reduces flares, ghosting and reflections while increasing light transmission. The Zeiss-coated lens combined with the main camera's F1. 6 aperture and an AI-powered noise reduction system results in up to 140% greater light sensitivity in dark environments, Vivo states.

The portrait camera, meanwhile, offers 'night optimization' for taking pictures of people in low-light environments. For selfies, the Vivo X60 Pro+ has a 32MP F2. 5 26mm wide-angle front-facing camera with HDR and 4K/30fps video recording support.

Cameras aside, the X60 Pro+ offers many of the features consumers have come to expect in a high-end flagship phone, including USB-C with fast charging support, an under-display fingerprint sensor, dual-band WiFi 802. 11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth 5. 2, NFC and GPS. The model also sports a dual-SIM design with dual standby and ships with Android 11 running OriginOS 1. 0.

Vivo has launched the X60 Pro+ in dark blue and orange color options with a starting price of CNY 5,000 (€640, $775) in China; it remains unclear whether the company will bring this model to other markets.
