This should make the camera world happy. Canon will re-enter the compact camera segment in 2025 with the PowerShot V1. It will be a real compact camera and nothing like the PowerShot V10 that we initially assumed it would be.
Canon released the RF 50mm f1. 4L VCM, 24mm f/1. 4L VCM, and 35mm f/1. 4L VCM, and there have been hints that more is coming. This patent application (2025-015010) shows the RF 24mm f/1. 4L VCM. However, other embodiments may come out in the future.
We have been told that Canon is going to introduce another PowerShot V series camera. Back in May of 2023, Canon introduced the PowerShot V10, a new form factor vlogging & streaming camera. We have no idea how well the PowerShot V10 did sales wise, but Canon is bringing out a higher-end V series camera [.
In this patent application (2025-011796) we have several embodiments of ultra wide angle lenses that would be power zoom capable. They are all inner focus lenses as well. It could be that Canon is thinking about making, yet again, another ultra-wide angle, and this time with more of a video focus, or this is in [.
We are starting to get more details released on the Canon RF 16-28mm f/2. 8 IS STM, and while we’ve already given out our patent overview and MTF comparisons, more details are never bad. I missed this patent. In my defence, I looked at it and went. . meh, Canon doing ANOTHER Ultrawide? At the time, this was before the now likely trinity of f/2. 8’s IS STMs were forming, so I can be forgiven (maybe) for that judgment call.
