Most photographers give Jamel Shabazz the credit and the respect that he deserves. Read that sentence again -- and notice how I talk about photographers. When I use this word, I'm referring to people who genuinely care about photography as a still image and not as a reel to be thrown together and forgotten about by an algorithm.
It's easy for photographers of a certain age to romanticize the ideals of those like Garry Winogrand or Bresson. Others instead might stray towards the questionably cult-like cliques formed by photographers like Eric Kim or Thorsten Overgaard.
In our 11 years, we've interviewed lots of photographers. But more importantly, we've stayed close to our photojournalism roots. Our platform has been used by many photographers to get the word out.
Hidden against the towering skyscrapers, shopping districts, and world-famous spots of Hong Kong are the lesser-known stories of its migrant worker population. While some light has been shed on their plight, there remains an underreported reality that is both shared and personal to the migrant workers and their families.
