DJI has launched the Osmo Action, an insanely cool action camera that goes head to head with GoPro's Hero7 Black. This is not the first time DJI and GoPro have locked horns, but it is the first time DJI has launched an action camera, which has always been GoPro’s core market.
With GoPro potentially on the ropes, what can the brand do to fight back? Well, here’s five ways they could move forward…

One - Build a tough mirrorless camera:
So, this is a big ask, but what if GoPro took all the best bits from its great rugged action cameras and made a bigger, higher resolution mirrorless camera. Think how cool it would be to have a camera around the same size as models like the Sony A7RIII or Fuji X-T3, but benefits from being waterproof, crushproof and dustproof, thus enabling you to use it in mega-harsh conditions and even underwater! A big ask? Maybe, but perhaps now’s the time for curveball move?
Two - Get back in the drone game:
Okay, the Karma drone didn’t work out thanks in part to DJI's popular rivals models like the Phantom and Mavic range, but it proved GoPro has the capability to make big waves in the drone market. With DJI now entering the action camera market, perhaps now is the time for GoPro to take the fight to DJI with a brand new rival drone?

Three - Move into movie gear:
The pro movie market is a huge industry and although GoPro has focused on action cameras up to now, expanding into more professional rugged movie cameras could open new doors. Kit like gimbals may attract more professional filmmakers who could fall back in love with the brand.
Four - Make a splash underwater:
For a time, there were rumours that the new DJI product could be some sort of underwater drone, enabling photographers of explore beneath the surface, capturing images and video of marine life or to record selfie footage when scuba-diving. As the new DJI launch turned out to be the Osmo Action, this leaves the way clear for GoPro to be the first to bring such a product to the market.

Five - Push the boundaries with technology:
One camera that has done well for GoPro is the Fusion; the brand’s 360-degree camera. Moving further into immersive media and VR technology could open up new opportunities for GoPro and also help the brand take on rivals such as Ricoh’s Theta range or Insta360. With platforms like Youtube supporting 360 video, new cameras could help Vloggers tell stories in new ways.
