GoPro has today announced its much-rumored Karma drone, which the company calls an 'end-to-end storytelling solution. ' The quad-copter is compatible with all HERO 4 and HERO 5 cameras and foldable for convenient transport in a backpack.
GoPro's objective was to create a package small enough to always take with you, no matter the activity you want to film.
Included in the box is the Karma grip which can hold the drone's detachable 3-axis stabilizer, allowing for the shooting of smoothly stabilized hand-held footage. It can also be mounted to vehicles or other objects and controls shutter and shooting modes.
The Karma's controller comes with an integrated touch display that can be used for parameter setup but during flight also lets you see what the camera is recording. GoPro says the Karma has been designed with beginner pilots in mind. There is an automatic one-button takeoff and landing function and built-in no-fly zones prevent the drone from flying into restricted areas. The Karma also flies back to you when it is out of range, loses connection or when the battery is low. Built-in Auto Shot Paths allow for the easy shooting of drone selfies. The GoPro Karma will be available October 23 for $799. 99 without camera, for $999. 99 in a bundle with the HERO5 Session or for $1099. 99 with the HERO5 Black.
