Sony appears to have finally and quietly discontinued the last of its DSLRs. The a99 II, a77 II, and a68 cameras show as “no longer available” through dealers and have been removed from the company’s official website.

Sony has announced it is transforming its Electronics Products & Solutions (EP&S) segment into an intermediate holding company. Reuters reports that Sony is planning to deploy 40 percent of its new engineer hires in Japan at its chip business which also includes the manufacturing of image sensors. Prior to September 2008, the only options for owners of Konica Minolta Alpha-mount lenses were APS-C DSLRs like Sony's DSLR-A700 (Sony acquired KM's camera business in 2006). Patent and technology consultancy Chipworks has published its iPhone 7 teardown and reveals that front and rear image sensors on the new Apple models are supplied by market leader Sony. This is not too much of a surprise as earlier iPhone models used Sony sensors as well. dpreview.com »
