Ever since Sigma’s announcement of three new lenses that would be added to the Global Vision Line, anticipation has been high for the new glass to be released. The three new lenses were an 85mm f/1.
4 DG HSM Art, a 12–24mm f/4 DG HSM Art, and a 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sport.
The first of the bunch, a 12–24mm f/4 DG HSM Art, is currently available for Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts. The 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sport has thus far been a Canon exclusive, but arguably the most exciting of the three – the 85mm f/1. 4 Art has yet to make it into the hands of the public.
However, those looking for a new portrait shooter need wait no longer. Sigma have announced that the 85mm f/1. 4 Art will be available shortly for Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts.
As a bonus, Sigma have also confirmed that the 500mm f/4 will also make its way to Sigma and Nikon mounts. Both of these lenses are regarded as excellent, particularly in their respective price ranges.
The 85mm has been dubbed “the ultimate portrait lens” by Sigma, and according to photographer Ihor Balaban, who tried out a pre-production model of the lens, it “exceeds expectations. ”
Sigma’s 85mm f/1. 4 Art and 500mm f/4 are both available now for US$1,200 and US$6,000, respectively.
