Back in 2006, when Sony purchased Minolta, we weren't quite sure just what Sony would bring to the table. Sure, Sony had dabbled with Cyber Shot cameras, but moving into the camera market proper was a big step, and man did they ever make a splash.
Since that time, Sony has rarely had to look over their shoulder as they have been forging a path that had led them to lead the current pack of camera manufacturers, but now, Canon, Nikon, and Co are waking up and are getting closer to Sony. Sony, it seems, have reached peak camera, so if they want to widen that gap once again, they will need to dig deep and innovate as they did at the start of the Mirrorless age.
