The D810 replacement will ‘exceed expectations’. . . . July 25, 2017 not only saw Nikon blow out the candles on their 100th birthday cake, as the company chose the anniversary to officially announce the development of the D850 - the replacement for Nikon’s popular D810 full-frame DSLR.
Although specs were brief to non-existent, the language used in the official press release was interesting and pointed to Nikon having something very special up its sleeve. “Nikon is pleased to announce the development of the next generation full-frame, high-resolution, high-speed digital SLRs” was the opening line. Mentioning high resolution is interesting and hopefully means Nikon will be able to match, or even exceed, Canon’s 50-megapixel 5DS/5DSR cameras.
“The D850 will be a formidable tool for creators who will not compromise on exceptional image quality” was another line from the press release that points to Nikon going big on megapixels for this new flagship model.
What’s perhaps more of a surprise is the repeated mention of speed in the text, suggesting the D850 could also offer a sophisticated autofocus system and a rapid continuous shooting (frames per second) rate.
Nikon did go as far as to let slip the target market stating; "landscapers, wedding photographers, sports shooters and fashion and commercial photographers" would be suitable for the D850. What’s more, Nikon extended this grouping to multimedia creators, which leads us nicely onto the one spec that has officially been confirmed. Nikon also released a short video, which it states was captured exclusively on the D850. The beautiful short sequence looks to be captured in the desert and displays a time-lapse sequence of a starry sky before confirming the D850 has an 8K time-lapse mode!

So, are you excited by this massive announcement and what else would you like to see on the D850?
