Winning photographs of the 2021 Storm Photographer of the Year competition The winning photographs and photographers fort the second annual Storm Photos of the Year competition have been announced.

This year’s collection of images highlight an incredible collection of images that showcase incredible weather events from across the world.

Affectionately referred to its creators as ‘The Stormys,’ this competition is designed ‘to reward incredible storm photographers around the globe for their hard work every year. ’ Unlike many other photo contests, The Stormys doesn’t require submissions to fall under any nefarious agreements ‘so that you are terrified your image will end up on a billboard somewhere solely because you entered it into a contest. ’ On the contests website, its creators say ‘The images are yours. Not ours. Our only hope is to use them to promote you, your work and our little contest here. That’s the end of the story. ’

This year’s contest consisted of three categories: Photo of the Year, Tornado Photo of the Year and Photographer of the Year. According to the contest’s description, ‘The first two sought to find the most incredible, single photos taken from the prior year in their respective categories [while]the third (portfolio) award looked to recognize the achievement of putting together an amazing set of 10 images taken in 2021. ’

The winners for these categories were Alexia Maillard for Photo of the Year, Everett Occhippinti for Tornado Photo of the Year and Amy Howard for Photographer of the Year. Below are the prizes the winners received:

This year’s images were judged by a panel of five judges, including: Dave DiCello, Mike Olbinski, Linda van Rosmalen, Dennis Oswald, Camille Seaman and Nick Drieschman.
