Tamron Launches 24-70mm Lens with 5 Stops of Image Stabilisation

Tamron has announced its second new lens in as many weeks. Following on from last week’s launch of the world’s first-ever 18-400mm super zoom lens, Tamron have pulled the covers off a new full-frame 24-70mm optic.

Tamron's latest 24-70mm optic features five stops of image stabilisation

Top of the feature headlines for the SP 24-70mm f/2. 8 Di VC USD G2 is the lens’ ability to offer five stops of image stabilisation, which will be sure to delight those photographers who like to capture handheld images in low light conditions. The image stabilisation works to reduce the risk of camera shake, which can lead to blurred photos. In fact, Tamron say this is the highest level of vibration compensation of any lens in this class.

Boasting a fast maximum aperture of f/2. 8, the 24-70mm optic is built around a new Dual MPU (Micro Processing Units) motor system, which aims to provide rapid autofocusing with high accuracy rates. Weighing 905g (900g for Nikon fitment) the lens also benefits from a moisture-resistant construction that allows photographers to keep shooting when the rain starts to fall.

With a fast f/2. 8 aperture, the lens is available for Canon and Nikon cameras

With a design that features 17 elements in 12 groups, the lens also features Tamron’s eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating, which aims to provide superior anti-reflection performance and curb the ghosting and flare that can occur when photographing backlit subjects. Like the 18-400mm lens launched last week, the 24-70mm is compatible with Tamron’s TAP-in Console, an optional accessory that enables the lens to connect to a computer for firmware updates and adjustments to autofocus and Vibration Compensation.

No pricing information has been released so far, but Tamron have revealed that the optic will be available from July in Canon and Nikon fitments.
