Canon has been exploring quite a bit of methods of doing tilt in a more automated fashion, from having the lens electronically controlled to this patent application (2024-057829) that has the tilt movement controlled inside the camera itself.
This patent application (2024-025274) discusses how to automate the tilt movement given the objects that the user wants in focus, but more importantly when you want to tilt the plane of focus to something other than horizontal or vertical.
We have been told that Canon will announce at least three new lenses ahead of the CP+ Photo & Imaging Show in Yokohama, Japan which takes place between February 22 – February 25, 2024. We were not told what lenses to expect, but that a niche part of the market would be addressed.

It looks like the much requested RF mount tilt-shift lenses are finally on the horizon. Tilt-shift lenses have been on our roadmap for a long time, and the big advancement is apparently these will be the first autofocus tilt-shift lenses on the market.
Freelensing is a photography technique that means you are holding the lens in front of an interchangeable lens camera. For first thought can be that "you'll have no focus!" or "dust on the sensor!" but actually, there is more about this.
