Sony was the first company to pivot to full-frame mirrorless cameras in 2013 with alpha 7 and alpha 7R. It is amazing to see how they challenged the DSLR, which was already in full swing. Perhaps they saw the trend change before anyone (Panasonic technically became the first to use mirrorless but in the Micro Four Thirds segment), which is paying them so well.
Today, Sony is issuing a firmware update for the Sony a1 and Sony a7s III cameras. Granted, they're pretty important firmware updates. But since we test a whole lot of cameras, we're starting to scratch our heads a bit at what's happening here.
If you're excited about the new Sony 24-70mm f2. 8 GM II, then gear up! It will work best on these cameras. We asked Sony during our briefing about this. During our review, we also tested it on the older Sony a7r III.
There are cameras with great high ISO output that lots of photographers enjoy for various reasons. Everything from sports, night photography, portraiture, and astrophotography requires cameras with great low light abilities.
CFExpress Type A is pretty new when it comes to standards. At the moment, not many cameras use them. Many are still sticking to SD--but some accommodate CFExpress. Type A though, is pretty new, and they have a great advantage.
First off, you should know that we've done the print tests. That's right, we test cameras in a much different way when it comes to high ISO output. Looking at ISO 6400 on 5K Retina screen is much different than printing it.
We recently finished reviewing the new Sony a7s III camera. Overall, we felt it's great. But there are ways that it could have been made better. The new camera retains a 12MP full frame sensor but has a brand new processor.
