I don't think most photographers can argue about the importance of 85mm lenses. They're fantastic for portrait photography and even a little bit of sports or street photography. We'd know, we've reviewed a ton of them over the years.
The art of portrait photography is one that's got a whole lot to deal with talking to people. There needs to be a connection. And oftentimes, you should talk to someone before you shoot their portrait.
Earlier tonight, we got the chance to play with the brand new Sony 85mm f1. 8 FE and the new Sony 100mm f2. 8 STM FE G Master. Both lenses performed absolutely wonderfully, but if I really had to put my money on one or the other, I believe that I'd personally lean more towards the 85mm.
