We’ve featured a few wildlife competitions in 2017, but none of them will make you laugh, smile and generally inspire like the Comedy Wildlife Awards. The images show animal photo bombs, creatures smiling (and swearing) plus the odd comedy composition, but the real message of the competition is a little more serious.
Founded by Tanzania-based photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, the aim of the awards is to put a spotlight on wildlife conservation efforts while simultaneously injecting some humour into the world of wildlife photography.
This year’s competition received a staggering 3500 entries from 86 different countries and the images were assessed by a judging panel that included UK wildlife TV presenter Kate Humble, actor and comedian Hugh Dennis and wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas.
In addition to this year’s competition, CWPA has just launched two books: the 'Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards' and 'Wild and Crazy: Photos from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards'. 10% of all proceeds go to the Born Free Foundation, so get your copy via the Comedy Wildlife website here.
Now, let's check out some more of our favourite images from the shortlisted entries. . . and we apologise in advance for the terrible puns. . .
