Sony is set to provide Apple with a "state-of-the-art" image sensor for its next iPhone that will supposedly double the amount of light it can capture and give it the ability to clearly capture a face even with a strong backlight. [Read More]
In December of 2021, Sony successfully developed the world’s first stacked CMOS image sensor technology with two-layer transistor pixels, doubling its light gathering capability.
Sensors are the main battleground in the camera industry, and Gpixel’s latest appears to be well aware of that fact. The company has created a 49-megapixel, HDR, backside-illuminated, stacked sensor capable of up to 8K at 120 frames per second.
Normally sensor manufacturers have to choose between high speed and high resolution while also managing power consumption. Canon appears to be trying to find a way to balance all three needs with a new sensor patent.
