Is it real? We honestly don't know. But if the Sony a5 is real, then we've got a ton of questions. Like, what's the pricing going to be? Will it still really be over $1,000? In December of 2021, Sony successfully developed the world’s first stacked CMOS image sensor technology with two-layer transistor pixels, doubling its light gathering capability.
Sensors are the main battleground in the camera industry, and Gpixel’s latest appears to be well aware of that fact. The company has created a 49-megapixel, HDR, backside-illuminated, stacked sensor capable of up to 8K at 120 frames per second.
Nikon has announced the development of a 17. 84 million pixel, 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor that can shoot “high-resolution images” at up to 1,000 frames per second in shoot 4K and promises a particularly impressive wide dynamic range.
Normally sensor manufacturers have to choose between high speed and high resolution while also managing power consumption. Canon appears to be trying to find a way to balance all three needs with a new sensor patent.
