8 DG DN | C, a fast wide-angle zoom for full-frame that makes up part of the company's more affordable 'contemporary' range.
The lens is a new design for mirrorless cameras and will be available for L and E mounts. It uses a stepping motor and internal focus design to give fast, quiet focus. It's designed to work well for both stills and video.
It's a relatively small, light design for a wide-angle zoom: 101mm (4. 0") long and 77mm (3. 0") in diameter and weighing 450g (15. 9oz). This, combined with its internal zoom design, means it should be easy to balance for use on a gimbal. The lens features a 72mm front filter thread, allowing the easy use of circular polarizers and ND filters.
The design is made up of 16 elements in 11 groups, with 5 FLD (fluorite-like) and 4 aspherical lens elements. It's able to focus down to 25cm (9. 9"), giving a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:5. 6. It has nine rounded aperture blades to help the lens continue to deliver circular bokeh as you stop down.
Although this lens makes most sense on a full-frame sensor, it can also be used as a 24-42mm F4. 2 equivalent on APS-C bodies. Sigma highlights that it works well in conjunction with the company's existing 28-70mm F2. 8 DG DN | C to provide full-frame shooters with ultra-wide to short telephoto coverage in two wide-aperture lenses that together weigh 920g (2lbs).
The Sigma 16-28mm DG DN | C will be available for L and E-mounts from late June at a recommended price of $899.

The two large-diameter aspherical lens elements and five ideally arranged FLD glass elements (whose characteristics mirror that of fluorite) keep the lens light and compact while effectively suppressing the lateral and vertical chromatic aberrations that often diminish the image quality of other ultra-wide lens designs.
