Tamron has announced the development of another telezoom to expand the brand's range of quality options. The Tamron 100-400mm f/4. 5-6. 3 Di VC USD is a variable aperture zoom that offers a genuine alternative to Nikon and Canon users looking for a versatile optic to be used for wildlife and nature photography.
Despite the versatile focal length, the Tamron 100-400mm wighs just 1115g
Although the fitment information of the 100-400mm lens is still to be confirmed, Tamron’s range currently covers Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. Designed to offer a long focal length of 100-400mm (that’s 150-600mm when paired with a crop-sensor DSLR), the lens is also compatible with Tamron’s 1. 4x convertor, meaning a potential top-end focal length of 840mm.
This vast focal length is also balanced with compact dimensions - at 1115g, Tamron say this lens is the lightest in its class and features magnesium material in key areas of the lens barrel to improve weight reduction. Despite the portable properties of the lens, the 100-400mm includes Vibration Compensation (VC) technology to enable photographers to capture sharp images in low light conditions or when a long focal length is selected.
A Dual Micro-Processing unit helps provide fast autofocus.
Along with a Dual Micro-Processing unit to aid with fast and accurate autofocus, the 100-400mm also benefits from compatibility with Tamron’s TAP-in Console, which allows for focus adjustments and firmware upgrades. The lens design includes three Low Dispersion elements and eBAND coating for improved image quality.
As this optic is geared towards wildlife and nature photography, users will be pleased to hear the Tamron 100-400mm f/4. 5-6. 3 Di VC USD is resistant to dust and moisture. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 1. 5-metres and photographers can purchase an optional Arca Swiss-compatible collar so the lens can be mounted to a tripod. Unfortunately, Tamron has yet to release confirmed details on shipping dates or pricing.
