Anticipation was high when DJI acquired a majority stake in Hasselblad earlier this year, but we haven’t seen the partnership truly bear fruit until now. The two companies have just announced an extremely high-spec drone which combines DJI’s excellent drone tech and Hasselblad’s decades of photography experience, bringing medium format photography to the skies.
In essence, the “new” drone is simply an elegant combination of three existing products; Hasselblad’s H6D-100c, DJI’s M600 Pro drone and DJI’s Ronin-MX gimbal. All three are excellent products in their own right, so a combination of them is a formidable prospect.
The H6D-100c was released in early 2016 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Swedish manfacturer. Featuring a 100-megapixel sensor, max ISO range of 12,800 and 4K video, it's a supremely capable camera.
The M600/Ronin-MX/H6D-100c package is on display through April 27 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be released in the third quarter of 2017.
No price for the package has been announced yet, but it's safe to say that this combination will be aimed at the high end of the market, intended for “landscape and fine-art photography” or “robust data for surveying and mapmaking,” according to DJI.
One thing is certain - this combination will enable aerial photographers to reach new heights.
