Leaked photos allegedly show off Sony's new FX3 Cinema Line mirrorless camera

Over the past 24 hours, images and details of a forthcoming Sony cinema camera have leaked, showing off what appears to be a compact cinema camera called the FX3 (ILME-FX3). Little information is available at this time.

All we know so far is what the camera will look like based on what appears to be a leaked press photo from Nokishita and another hands-on image that shows the rear of the camera. The device has also been registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), confirming the name seen on the camera.

The first thing you’ll notice about the camera is the form factor. Assuming this is the final product, this would be the most compact Cinema Camera in Sony’s lineup, with obvious design inspiration coming from the company’s a6000-series camera systems. The front of the camera appears to have a fairly standard design when compared to Sony’s a6000-series cameras, but a look at the top plate shows this thing is designed for modularity, with three standard tripod screws on top, as well as a dedicated record button. Other buttons on the camera are labelled with numbers, suggesting they will be user-customizable to fit specific use cases.

The left side of the body also shows a full-height vent. Given the small size of the body, an internal fan would certainly make sense to keep the unit from overheating, although space for its inclusion is quite limited.

Sony Alpha Rumors is reporting a ˆ3,795 ($4,600) price tag and a CFexpress Type A card slot on board. Original rumors suggested 8K recording, but Sony Alpha Rumor’s latest report suggests it will top out at 4K at 120 frames per second (fps). These are yet to be confirmed, however.

We have no further information at this time about the camera shown in the images.

How to Get Better Battery Life From Your Sony Camera

Sony camera users have known for a long time now that the battery life on their cameras tends to be pretty bad overall. This is especially the case with their mirrorless camera lineup. If you're using your Sony camera professionally, then you're going to need to bring a lot of batteries with you to a gig if it's a day long event. But if it's a quicker gig, then it does the job. thephoblographer.com »

Sony Resolves 4K Overheating with a6500

As much as we loved the a6300, it does have a few flaws, and one of the biggest and most-publicised was the overheating of the camera whilst recording long stretches of 4k video. Many users reported that the camera would display a warning signal before shutting down automatically to protect the sensor from damage. digitalrev.com »
