Let me preface this article by saying that, in many ways, the newly announced Nikon Zf has far exceeded my expectations. Truth be told, I was expecting nothing more than a full-frame Nikon Zfc. In a slightly bigger size and with a bit less plastic in the body. thephoblographer.com »

"Nothing, it's yours," my dear friend told me when she was cleaning out her father's belonging from her childhood home. A regular at one of the bars I frequent saw the joy on my face as bright as the sun reflects off the sea. thephoblographer.com »

Back in 2017, I reviewed the Nikon N80. By that time, it was already an old camera. It's not as well known or as spoken about as many of Nikon's other cameras. However, your parents, aunts, or uncles, probably owned one. thephoblographer.com »

In a documented but little-known fact, Nikon was very close to being instead named “Nikorette.” The name was only changed when executives were afraid that the word sounded “weak.” Capa Camera Web recently published an article (first spotted by Nikon Rumors) that details the history of Nikon’s name, and in it reveals that Nikon was […] petapixel.com »

My name is Adam Smith. Photography has been part of my life, as it has been for many others growing up. Film cameras came everywhere with us on family outings in our home state of Michigan and other states around the Great Lakes. thephoblographer.com »

Nikon Europe just published this 15-second video that provides a preview of the Eye-Detection AF functionality that’s coming to the Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras. This was the 14-second teaser that was shared when the firmware update was originally announced back in January 2019: Nikon says the new firmware update will be released on May […] petapixel.com »

When Nikon first introduced the Z mount last year, one of the lenses that launched alongside the Z6 and Z7 was the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f4 S zoom lens. While it was compact and weather sealed, a maximum constant aperture of f4 just doesn't let in enough light, which is where the brand new Nikkor Z 24-70mm f2. thephoblographer.com »

This year seems like it went by in a flash (although thinking back to some of the news headlines I'm still tempted to say 'good riddance'). In the photo industry, 2018 has definitely felt like a year of transitions: not least because this was the year that Canon and Nikon finally entered the full-frame mirrorless market, and in so doing began the slow process of moving beyond their respective legacy EF and F mounts. dpreview.com »

A few years ago, I was embarrassingly very vocal about how disappointed I was about some of the Nikon lenses. I’ve been using Nikon cameras and lenses for decades and although I was very pleased with the image quality and color rendition their cameras produced, I strongly considered jumping the Nikon ship in search of […] petapixel.com »

When the Nikon 28mm f1. 4 came in for review and was announced, I was a bit hesitant. Why? Well, while I was excited about the lens for sure, I'm still not a person that believes that DSLRs are necessarily the future despite the fact that I acknowledge how good they are. thephoblographer.com »

The D810 replacement will ‘exceed expectations’. . . . July 25, 2017 not only saw Nikon blow out the candles on their 100th birthday cake, as the company chose the anniversary to officially announce the development of the D850 - the replacement for Nikon’s popular D810 full-frame DSLR. digitalrev.com »

Nikon is keeping the 100th anniversary party going with a new one-of-a-kind feat: assembling the world's largest 'human camera'. Italian distributor Nital and Media Italia put on the event, and over a thousand volunteers answered the call to don black, grey, white and red t-shirts. dpreview.com »

In 2007, after several years of lagging behind Canon in the enthusiast and professional DSLR market, Nikon was doing alright. Not spectacularly, but they were hanging in there. The D200 was a popular and capable enthusiast model, and the professional D2x was a significant advance on the muddled 'h' and 's' releases of the past. dpreview.com »

In 2004 I had to make the same grueling decision as many fellow photographers: Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) or Nikon D70 - which one was to become my first digital SLR? The Canon, which had been launched in August 2003 was the first true consumer-level DSLR and had been on my wish list for a few months when, in January 2004, Nikon threw a curve ball and launched a direct competitor to the EOS 300D: the D70, the company's first sub-$1000 digital SLR. dpreview.com »

Ten megapixels ought to be enough for anybody. It was ten years ago this past September that Nikon introduced its 10 megapixel, twin-dial D80 DSLR. It was also ten years ago that my dad picked up a shiny new example of one to act as a backup to his workhorse studio camera, the D200. dpreview.com »

These days, it's not uncommon to see timelapse videos shot with just still cameras; but it was very uncommon to see it back in 1997 and done with the Nikon F5. But a vintage ad (yes, because the 90s are vintage) This commercial was shot back in 1997 by Alastair Thain using the Nikon F5 camera! According to the YouTube description, this was the first time a stills camera had ever been used to shoot "moving images". thephoblographer.com »
